The right size makes a Moroccan rug look intentional. A rug that is too small makes a room feel unfinished, and one that is too large can crowd it. This guide covers common sizes and simple rules for each room.
Common rug sizes
| Size (ft) | Size (cm) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 x 3 | 60 x 90 | Entryways, beside a bed, bathrooms |
| 3 x 5 | 90 x 150 | Small entryways, desks, kitchens |
| 5 x 7 | 150 x 210 | Small living rooms, bedrooms, reading corners |
| 6 x 9 | 180 x 270 | Medium living rooms, dining areas |
| 8 x 10 | 240 x 300 | Large living rooms, king beds, dining tables |
| 9 x 12 | 270 x 365 | Open-plan spaces, large living rooms |
Our rugs are made to order and sizes start at 2 x 3 ft (60 x 90 cm). Check each product page for the exact sizes available.
Living room
Leave 8 to 18 inches (20 to 45 cm) of bare floor around the rug. Ideally at least the front legs of your sofa and chairs sit on the rug, so the seating feels connected.
Bedroom
Place the rug so it extends about 24 inches (60 cm) beyond each side of the bed, or use smaller rugs beside the bed. A plush pile feels best underfoot in a bedroom.
Dining room
The rug should extend at least 24 inches (60 cm) past the table on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
Hallway and entryway
Leave 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) of floor on each side of a runner. Low pile keeps doors moving freely.
How to choose the pile height
Low pile is flatter and easier to keep clean, medium pile is a balanced everyday choice, and plush pile is the softest. Browse our Moroccan rugs to see the designs available.
