Who We Are

A Direct Line from
Weaver to Home

MoroccoWoven works through a direct relationship with a Beni Ourain cooperative in Morocco's Middle Atlas. Our goal is simple: reduce the distance between the people who make the rugs and the people who choose to live with them.

Our current collection is made to order. Each rug is produced after the order is placed, rather than pulled from mass-produced factory stock.

Direct Connection
We work directly with the cooperative rather than sourcing anonymous pieces from a catalogue.
Made to Order
Each rug is made for the customer after the order is confirmed.
Handmade Character
Natural variations in weave, pile, edges and pattern are part of handmade work.
Fair Relationship
Fair treatment of the people who make the rugs is a condition of how we work.

Know Your Rug, Before It Reaches Your Floor

Every rug we sell is hand-knotted or hand-woven by artisan families in Morocco's Middle Atlas and central plains. We work with only three traditions — Beni Ourain, Beni M'rirt, and Boujaad — nothing mass-produced, nothing sourced elsewhere.

Our Origins
Beni Ourain

Undyed ivory wool, hand-knotted by the Beni Ourain tribe in the Middle Atlas. Simple geometric diamonds and lines, washed once for a natural, slightly nubby feel.

Beni M'rirt

From the same Middle Atlas region, knotted roughly twice as densely as Beni Ourain and washed several times over — a softer, silkier pile that takes far longer to make.

Boujaad

Hand-knotted on Morocco's central plains in warm reds, pinks, and oranges. Bold diamonds, stars, and tribal symbols — every rug tells its own story.

Pile & Weave Glossary
Under ¼in · ~0.6cm
Low Pile

Short, tight fibers set close to the base. Firm underfoot, easy to clean, and built to hold up in busy rooms.

¼–¾in · ~0.6–2cm
Medium Pile

A balance between low and plush — enough softness to feel good underfoot, still practical for everyday traffic.

¾in & up · ~2cm+
Plush Pile

Tall, dense fibers with a deep, cushioned feel. Best for bedrooms and low-traffic spaces where comfort comes first.

Flat weave · no pile
Hanbal (Flatweave)

A thin, soft flatweave — woven, not knotted — traditional to southern Morocco. Lightweight, reversible, and often symbolic in pattern.

01
Wool & Materials

Each rug begins with the materials and specifications selected for the order, prepared for handmade production in Morocco.

02

The chosen design, color direction and finish are prepared for the weaver. Handmade variation is part of the character of the finished piece.

03
Made by Hand

The rug is made by hand. Production time varies with size and complexity, and the total estimated timeframe from order to delivery is approximately 20–40 days.

04
